It is often framed that a woman who is pregnant deserves the "punishment" that they had sex. Yeah. They deserve to go through 18 years until the child that they didn't mean to have is old enough to handle their life on their own. They deserve to go through payments and major struggles to support their child. Yeah. It might seem a little rough, but really, lets go through the details.
There are lots of girls right now in Afghanistan who are at the oldest fifteen, and they are pregnant and die from childbirth. Girls that are fifteen. Pregnant. They are not allowed to get an abortion since their departments of health are horrid. And usually, some person who is usually smiling when they say this: "Abortion is a sin. It still is not right."
Okay, firstly.
Are you telling me that a girl that is 15 years old, a year younger than me, should have a baby that will never be healthy? On Advocates for Youth, there is a fact that tells us that the baby who is born to a fifteen year old or younger is twice as likely to weigh less than 2,500 grams (about 5.5 pounds) at birth, and are three times more likely to die in the first 28 days of life. You are putting this 15 year old or younger girl in danger to her body for one, and most likely a huge loss in her life from her child.
But wait! There's even more about teenage mothers. Younger teenagers are usually sexually assaulted. And you still want her to have a baby? Nearly 66% teenage mothers reported non-voluntary sexual activity; 44% reported having been raped.
However, it is the females choice to have the child, but there is the choice to have an abortion. My mother always told me if I ever got pregnant, she wouldn't have helped me with the payments for house or car. Anything. This is also harsh if I was pregnant and wanted to have the child, but it most situations, it comes to having the child because they are afraid to speak up.
It is your own choice, believe it or not. It is your body, and your child. Don't let other people "punish" you for having a child, even if it was "your fault." There are many sites and local clinics that help and support you for anything you need. And do not let anti-abortionists tell you that you will "regret" your abortion. Abortion is easy and clear, and you will know when you know.

ReplyDeleteAgreed. I hate the whole old fashioned attitude of "Women should be punished." for having sex, especially when a lot of women are just full on assaulted. A lot of children end up in foster care, poverty, and are abused. How about we focus on the children who live this way and help them instead of restricting abortion? It should be a choice. I hate when people say "Oh well theres adoption!.' Yeah but sometimes people won't adopt outside their race or want a baby of a certain gender. So these children end up in foster care and may be put in abusive homes. Child protective services is a joke.( I know from experience) They do nothing when kids get abused most times. It pisses me off to see more and more of these clinics are being closed or have severe restrictions.( We do need some restrictions) For Example, A woman who is 7- 8 months pregnant shouldn't be able to walk into a clinic and get abortion. Most are done before 20 weeks thankfully.
ReplyDeleteMaking abortion illegal won't stop abortions. It will stop access to SAFE abortion. I would rather see a woman get an abortion than see a child moving from house to house and getting abused.
