Anti-Pornography: Yes or No?

The porn industry has been around for a long, long time. Although, it seems the more farther we get over the years, it becomes more harmful. Not to the men/women who enjoy it, but mostly to the feminists who say that the porn industry has been increasingly offensive and exploits women. But, it is a very conversational subject for lots because the production of pornography ranges from humiliation, to rape, or to sexual harassment but it can still be looked in a positive way than a negative way.

An opinion on pornography is that it harms women both physically and psychologically; however, the women usually enjoy it themselves. In some cases, it is abuse in it's own nature. Linda Boreman, who went into the porn industry, said that while she was filming a porno, said that she was beaten, raped, and "pimped." Her husband also held her at gunpoint and used psychical and emotional violence.

It also contributes to even more violence with "rape myths." Rape myths include the belief that women really want to be raped and they mean yes when they actually say no. Porn, according to other feminists, desensitizes viewers to violence against woman and leads to a progressive need to see more violence in order to become sexually aroused.

Although, there are some feminists out there that are sex-positive, or having a belief that sexual freedom is one of the main components for women's liberation. Pornography to them is great since sometimes it shows women being more dominant and presents women with body types varying from the typical mainstream entertainment and body image.

Also there is another topic that leads this discussion into something worse: the youth. While you're young and don't know a single thing about sexual education, and when you go to answers, you find porn. And then you learn from porn. Porn is showing non-safe and non-consensual sex. There are hundreds of revenge porn sites (a genre that involves posting sex tapes made with former partners without those partners' permission) and plus there is no condoms required during the filming of porn.

Wow. Although it's not porn's responsibility to teach viewers about sex, it gives us misconceptions about sex...

“Pornography is a harm of male supremacy made difficult to see because of its pervasiveness, potency and, principally, because of its success in making the world a pornographic place.”

  2. I agree. porn disgusts me. I feel that it also contributes to human trafficking, Women are often bought, sold and drugged from the streets and are forced into prostitution. A lot of porn stars say pretty much the same thing happened to them. They were often drugged or forces into sex acts that they didn't want to be a part of. A lot of women do it for the money, but just don't realize what they are getting into. I feel that most porn is violent and can lead to men or women becoming rapist or pedophiles. As a woman, when I say No, I mean NO! WHY IS THAT HARD FOR SOCIETY TO UNDERSTAND? Just because I have a vagina, I have to be submissive? Some need to get out heads out of the dark hole they have been stuck in.
